Lakers' Rajon Rondo: We are looking forward to proving doubters wrong this season

Los Angeles Lakers guard Rajon Rondo believes that he is one of the most competitive players in the NBA. Rondo, 35, won the NBA title with the Lakers two years ago but then left to join the Los Angeles Clippers. After only one season with the Clippers, Rondo returned to the Lakers.

“Absolutely. I think I’m one of the most competitive guys in the league and I love to win. Being put in a situation now where we have an opportunity to win a championship and there’s only a handful of teams that can say it at the beginning of training camp and we’re one of them this year," Rondo said, per Lakers Nation.

Rondo, 35, is just one of several veterans the Lakers have on their roster. The Lakers have the oldest roster in NBA history as their roster also features Carmelo Anthony (37), Lebron James (36), Marc Gasol (36), Trevor Ariza (36) and Dwight Howard (35).

“I look forward to again proving people wrong that age doesn’t make a difference. A lot of our guys on the team have a lot left in the tank and going against all odds and getting it done," Rondo insisted.

Rondo suggested the wisdom the Lakers have could be the key

"Wisdom is definitely a key to winning a championship and we have a lot of that obviously with the age and experience on the court… I’m looking to the naysayers saying about our age as being a problem, but obviously, you don’t have longevity in this league with having discipline, and so many guys, I just got done talking to Trevor, he’s in for 17 [years], Dwight 18, Bron 18.

So we have the guys that have a lot of mileage, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re still playing in this league at this level for so many years," Rondo said. This summer, the Lakers formed a Big 3 after trading for former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook.

The Lakers now have a Big 3 since their roster features Westbrook, James and Anthony Davis. Rondo is excited about playing alongside Westbrook. "More excitement, more energy in practice," Rondo said of playing with Westbrook.

"Looking forward to a lot more competitive competitions with him and other guys on the team. It's a helluva team as far as a lot of competitors, and I'm looking forward to getting better each day in practice with those guys."
