Klay Thompson is getting a fresh start to his storied career in the NBA after an impressive 13-year stay with the Golden State Warriors. The 30-year-old Leonard also signed a significant three-year, $50-million contract to join the Dallas Mavericks as part of a sign-and-trade agreement.

Through his departure, the Warriors will pay respects to him by retiring his jersey a recognition of how much he changed this franchise. He took to social media, penning an emotional thank you for the Warriors community. I want to thank from the bottom of my heart all people associated with @Warrior.

My family and I would like to say "THANK YOU TO A LOT OF AMAZING PEOPLE WHO WORKED LONG HOURS, HARD AND ARE SINCERE AT ALL!!!" Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened Until we meet again. Sea captain, out feel for all you wankers.

This heartfelt tribute elicited a brief three-word response from Thompson's ex-Warriors running mate and current Phoenix Suns player Kevin Durant, who called him the "Bay Area God." bay area God smh-Bay Area Goat, Durant tweeted.

A door that shuts, a window that opens. "Keep doing u champ," not only recognizes Thompson as a legend in the Bay Area, but it also speaks to his long-standing impact on each of those basketball communities.

Warriors' Dominant Dynasty

The athletes who most shaped Thompson's tenure with the Warriors are his teammates, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

The pair then formed one of the most dominant dynasties in NBA history, winning four NBA Finals. Which comes with the two titles they won hand-in-hand with Durant in 2017 and 2018. Their chemistry was unprecedented in that refreshing team play formed the foundation for timeless tales of one of, if not THE greatest duos to ever grace a NBA hardwood.

While Durant left the Warriors two years ago and headed to Brooklyn, then Phoenix this season, there were still so many questions about team discord that had forced him out. Some 51 years after that, the relationships built from those winning efforts still echo today; he recently reached out to Thompson with words of encouragement.
