The Denver Nuggets managed to secure a crucial 1-0 lead in the Western Conference playoffs against the Phoenix Suns, following a dominant performance at home last night, with a final score of 125:107.
Key Performances from the Winning Squad
Nikola Jokic, the Serbian center, once again showcased his impressive skills, recording a double-double with 24 points and 19 rebounds, while also contributing 5 assists.
The Nuggets' coach, Michael Malone, had high praise for Jokic, stating, "He’s a bad man”. Jamal Murray also delivered a noteworthy performance with 34 points and 9 assists, while Aaron Gordon contributed 23 points and 6 rebounds.
In response to the coach's admiration, Murray humbly stated, "Thanks? Appreciate it. ... I’m just playing my game. ... I’m doing whatever it takes to win."
Phoenix Suns' Response to the Loss
Despite the loss, the Suns had their own standout players in Kevin Durant, who recorded 29 points and 14 rebounds, and Devin Booker, who contributed 27 points and 8 assists.
However, the Suns' coach, Monty Williams, acknowledged the physicality of the Nuggets and stated, "I thought that they were just more physical, played with more force." Durant added, "They’re the No. 1 seed for a reason.
They got a two-time MVP. They've got a deep team. I’m not surprised. We've got our work cut out for us."
Regrouping for Game 2
The Suns will now look to regroup and come back stronger in the next game, with Williams stating, "We’ve got to regroup and do a much better job of playing with pace on offense." Durant also acknowledged his own shortcomings and stated, "I’ve got to be way more careful with the ball.
I've to look to either shoot the ball or make the correct pass. ... I dang got near half our turnovers. We’ll be fine. I think we've just got to play with confidence, shoot with confidence and see what happens next game." The next game will take place on Tuesday, with the Denver Nuggets serving as the host.
