The much-anticipated heavyweight title unification bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk has fallen through, leaving fans disappointed once again. The negotiations broke down due to Fury's unattainable demands, according to Usyk's promoter, Alexander Krassyuk.
One of the Biggest Mistakes of Fury's Career
In an interview with co-hosts Josh Denzel and Carl Frampton, Krassyuk expressed his frustration over the failed negotiations, stating that it would be a missed opportunity for Fury, who he considers a professional boxer with a duty to perform for fans.
Krassyuk said, “I would love to see [it], as a boxing fan,” Krassyuk said. “As Usyk’s promoter, I would love to make it happen. As just a normal Ukrainian, I would love my competitor to become the undisputed champion in a second-weight division.
So, from our side, it’s only plus, plus, plus. We know that Tyson Fury is a complex personality. And it’s probably not a surprise for anyone [that the fight hasn’t happened], and we can see it [through] his behavior in the last probably seven or 10 years.
“Yes, he is the [WBC] champion. Yes, he has the right to do things that he wants to do. But at the end of the day, he is a professional boxer. And his main assignment is to perform for the boxing fans. So, that is why I think if this fight does not take place, that would be one of the biggest mistakes that Tyson Fury could ever make in [his] professional boxing career”.
Searching for an Opponent
Despite the disappointment over the failed negotiations, Fury's future remains uncertain as he continues to search for an opponent. Rumors of a bout against Andy Ruiz or Kubrat Pulev have been circulating, but fans are still holding out hope for a showdown with Usyk.
Meanwhile, Usyk's promoter and Dubois's promoter have until May 3 to reach an agreement for their mandated match or risk a purse bid from the WBA. The failure of the negotiations between Fury and Usyk is a disappointment for fans and the boxing world.
While Fury continues to search for an opponent, Krassyuk remains optimistic that the fight will eventually take place, stating that it would be a missed opportunity for Fury to pass up.
