NBA insider: Russell Westbrook convinced Clippers he'll do what they seek from him

ESPN's NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Russell Westbrook will have a chance to be a starter again with the Los Angeles Clippers. Prior to the trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers moved Westbrook to the Utah Jazz.

After finalizing a buyout agreement with the Jazz, Westbrook plans to sign with the Clippers. According to Wojnarowski, Westbrook convinced the Clippers that he can do what they are seeking from him. The Clippers, who recently moved veteran guards John Wall and Reggie Jackson, were in a need of a point guard and they addressed it by landing Westbrook.

Wojnarowski: Westbrook has a chance to be a starter again

“There’s an opportunity for Russell Westbrook to start for this Clipper team. Remember at the trade deadline they moved out Reggie Jackson, they moved out John Wall.

Bones Hyland more of a combo guard they brought in from Denver. But I think the opportunity is there for him to start on this team. But listen, he’ll get in with the team this week, they start their sprint here to the end.

But again, Ty Lue and Russell Westbrook a lot of real serious conversations this week and I think again the Clippers have a very specific vision of what they want out of Russell Westbrook. He convinced them that he’s going to fulfill that vision for them, play in a way that they want him to play and I know he’s excited for a chance to stay in LA and again be on a Clipper team that has been healthy.

Kawhi Leonard has played incredible basketball really over the last several weeks and this is a team that certainly you look what they did at the trade deadline, I think they have an opportunity here to keep climbing in the West and if they’re healthy certainly make a run in the western playoffs," Wojnarowski said on NBA Today, per Talk Basket.

A couple of years ago, Westbrook was teammates with Paul George in Oklahoma. In recent days, it was reported that Clippers star George really wanted Westbrook to join the team. With Westbrook, George and Kawhi Leonard on their team, the Clippers are hoping to make a deep playoffs run.
