Luka Doncic on playing alongside Kyrie Irving: It is really fun

Luka Doncic is already a fan of Kyrie Irving's game as he reveals it is "really fun" to play alongside the eight-time NBA All-Star guard. On Saturday night, Doncic and Irving debuted as a duo. Unfortunately, Doncic and Irving didn't record a win in their first game together as the Dallas Mavericks suffered a 133-128 overtime loss against the Sacramento Kings.

"It's only our first game together, but it's so fun to play with this guy. He's an amazing basketball player, and I think it's going to be really fun. First game, it was really fun," Doncic said of playing alongside Irving, per ESPN.

With the Mavericks down by three in the overtime, Doncic decided to take a contested stepback three. Doncic didn't make the shot and afterward admitted that passing the ball to Irving would have probably been a better decision.

"It's my bad. Should have gave it back to Ky. For me, it's still a learning process. But for sure, I should have gave it back. He was really hot down the stretch, so that was on me for sure," Doncic said.

Irving wasn't mad at Doncic

When Irving was asked about Doncic not passing him the ball in the key moments, he said Doncic taking the shot wasn't the bad decision either.

"Either way, it was going to be a great shot, him shooting it or me shooting it. No pressure in terms of 'give me the ball' in that situation if he feels confident enough to take the shot. If he would have passed it to me, it may be a different result, maybe not.

But the what-ifs don't matter," Irving said. Against the Kings, Irving had a team-high 28 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists. On the other side, Doncic had 27 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Tonight, the Mavericks are hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves. It remains to be seen if Doncic and Irving can clinch their first win as teammates against Minnesota.
