Fox Sports analyst Shannon Sharpe has urged Ja Morant to "stop pretending he is a gangster." On Sunday, The Athletic published a report which claimed that the NBA was called to investigate after members of Indiana Pacers staff said that Morant's entourage trained a red laser on them.
The NBA's investigation couldn't confirm that the laser was attached to a gun but Morant's best friend Davonte Pack has been banned from the Memphis Grizzlies' arena for the remainder of the season. “I wish Ja would realize he’s not a thug.
Ja is a really good basketball player. Ja did everything he could to lift himself and his family out of this environment and to get away from this. And for some reason, he wants to surround himself with these types of people.
Why? Bruh, you not hard. That’s not your life. People that [are] in that life would give anything to be in your life," Sharpe said on Undisputed, per The New York Post.
Sharpe to Morant: Nobody thinks of you as a gangster
“For some reason, you got a $200 million contract, and you want people in the NBA to think you hood.
To think you gangster because you roll with these types of people. Bruh, you putting yourself in harm’s way when you don’t have to! Nobody looks at you, Ja, and thinks, ‘man, that’s a thug; he hood. He down, he ’bout that.’ You not!
Stop pretending! All you do is yap and talk about, ‘oh, I’m going to let him live and see another day; I’m going to do this.’ You not gonna do nothing! What you gon’ do is get yourself in trouble.
Put yourself and your family in harm’s way when you don’t have to!" Sharpe added. In January, Sharpe was in attendance when the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Grizzlies. During the game, Sharpe got into a verbal altercation with Grizzlies players and even Morant's dad Tee.
The incident happened prior to the halftime but everything was resolved peacefully and Sharpe was able to watch the remainder of the game.
