Giannis Antetokounmpo admitted he knew he was close to 50 points when he started shooting threes late in the Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans game. On Sunday night, Antetokounmpo notched his fifth 50-point performance as he had 50 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in a 135-110 win over the Pelicans.
Antetokounmpo had 44 points, before making back-to-back three-pointers to get to 50 points. "I knew that if I was able to get the rebound, I was going to shoot. It doesn't always work out, but tonight it did. I didn't hesitate at all.
I was able to get my legs under my shot. Stayed there and just watched the ball go in. It's one of those moments you can never take for granted because you never know when you're going to have those moments again," Antetokounmpo said after the game, per ESPN.
Antetokounmpo earns praise from his coach
Antetokounmpo was incredibly efficient from the field against the Pelicans as he made 20-of-26 of his field goal attempts. Antetokounmpo was easily making his field goal shots but he struggled a bit from the free-throw line as he made just seven of his 12 free throws.
After Antetokounmpo's big game led the Bucks to a comfortable win, the Greek was praised by Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer. "Tonight, I think 50 on 26 shots is impressive. Just everything he did, his aggressiveness. A couple 3s, especially late.
But he's shooting it well. Feels like a few more catch and shoots is something if we can generate a few of those for him and build the confidence in that area, keep getting to the free throw line and working on that, those are areas where he's improving," Bucks coach Budenholzer said of Antetokounmpo.
For the Bucks, it was their fourth consecutive win. Now, the Bucks own a 33-17 record and they are the third-best team in the Eastern Conference standings.
