Luke Doncic dropped some big words about Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, calling them "the best duo in the NBA." On Wednesday night, the Dallas Mavericks took on the Boston Celtics. Before the game, Doncic was asked to give his thoughts on the Celtics.
"They're probably the No. 1 team in the league, and they probably have the best duo in the league, too. And we're in the Garden -- it's always a special game. You have to come 100 percent. If you're not, you're probably going to lose.
It's a big game. Just watching their game. I think a lot of people can see that. I think the way they play. I know people try to separate them but they fit together, they went to the Finals last year, so I think those two are really great players.
They have one of the best records and they're missing I think a key guy, Williams III. I am impressed by his game, have always liked his game. So with him being out, and them having this record, that's why I said that," Doncic said, per ESPN.
Doncic had a monstrous performance but the Mavs still lost
After dropping some major praise on Tatum and Brown, Doncic met them on the floor. The three stars all enjoyed strong performances, especially Doncic - who dropped a game-high 42 points and also had eight rebounds and nine assists.
For the Celtics, Tatum had a team-high 37 points to go along 13 rebounds and give assists. Brown also enjoyed a very strong game as he posted 31 points. Unfortunately for the Mavericks, Doncic's strong performance wasn't enough as they suffered a 125-112 defeat.
Doncic has been absolutely brilliant at the start of this season but the Mavericks stand at just 9-8. In Boston, Doncic admitted that Jalen Brunson's departure put even more responsibility on his back. "It's a lot. You've got to be prepared physically.
I think this summer helped me. Some games I'm really tired, because it's a lot of basketball, for two years I never stopped playing basketball, but I'm just happy to play basketball," Doncic said. Doncic and Brunson were one of the best duos in the NBA last season.
But in the offseason, Brunson decided to sign a multi-year deal with the New York Knicks. Now, everything is on Doncic's back in Dallas.
