Andrew Wiggins revealed that Stephen Curry and company were very encouraging when he first arrived to the Golden State Warriors. In early February 2020, the Minnesota Timberwolwes traded Wiggins to the Warriors. Wiggins, the first overall pick of the 2014 NBA draft, was labeled as a bust in Minnesota and the Timberwolwes decided to move on from him two years ago.
Now, Wiggins is an NBA champion and coming off of a season in which he earned his first NBA All-Star appearance. “All those guys were very encouraging and motivating. Steph, Draymond, all them,” Wiggins said, via Jack Winter of ClutchPoints.
“They all did a lot for me in a lot of different ways. One thing they all do is they all hold you accountable. When you do something wrong, they’re gonna get at you. But the thing that I love about them is that when you do it right, they’re gonna be the first people to come up to you and congratulate you.
I feel like that goes a long way. They’ve taught me a lot on and off the court, so I cherish those guys”.
Wiggins played a big role in the Warriors' run to the title
Wiggins was playing well throughout the entire season, but he especially stepped up in the playoffs.
In the postseason, Wiggins was delivering on a regular basis and he played a big part in the team's run to the NBA title. After the season ended, Wiggins expressed desire to stay with the Warriors long-term. "I would love to stay here," Wiggins said shirtly after the season ended.
"Being here, this is top-notch. The way they treat the players, we're all one big family. I feel like a lot of places may say that, but they show it through their actions." Also, Wiggins reflected on the times when he was doubted and told he was a bust.
"There was a lot of talk, people have something to say about every little thing, but now I'm happy that I made it here," Wiggins said. "People didn't think I could ever be in this position or even be helpful on a championship team.
But I'm proving the doubters wrong and I'm going to keep it going." Wiggins could become an unrestricted free agent next summer. The Warriors are more than happy with what Wiggins brings to the table and it wouldn't be a surprise if the two sides agreed on an extension before the new season starts.
