Despite dominating many races this season, Kyle Larson came up short of winning. It is clear that sometimes the overwhelming desire to win is the main reason why Larson fails to achieve his goal. In an interview with the media, Kyle Petty explained the main reason why Larson failed in his intentions.

Judging by his words, Petty 'don’t think Larson’s giving away races' but 'misses opportunities to win' “I don’t think Larson’s giving away races, but I think he misses opportunities to win.

I went back and looked, just this year. I’m going to look at my list. Phoenix with William Byron. Darlington with [Ross] Chastain. Pocono and Kansas with [Denny] Hamlin. Texas with Bubba [Wallace]. Puts himself in a position to not win the race.

He doesn’t put himself in a position to win the race. There’s a difference in that, when you drive a race car."- Petty said.

Petty emphasizes that Larson needs to be more focused in certain moments. It is necessary for him to reduce his mistakes because precisely because of them, Larson misses the chance to make success.

As we said before, when you are close to a certain goal, your "huge desire and motive" can lead you to ruin. Sometimes it is crucial to calm down, stay focused, and to achieve victory. However, no one doubts that Larson really has quality.

Kyle still has great chances until the end of the season. “So I look at it and I think, ‘That’s not a giveaway. That’s just bad decision making.’ That’s just poor decision making in those cases.’ So I would like to see him up his game a little bit.

Listen, this is Kyle Petty telling a champion to up his game. But I would like to see him mature enough, to know and recognize when that situation comes”.
