Denny Hamlin commented on the race in Michigan, in which he could have made a much better result, although a P3 finish is also an extremely good result as well. The speed was there for Hamlin to win, but his teammate Martin Truex Jr ended up way back in P2, while Chris Buescher was a level above everyone and managed to pull off a victory that will be very important to him in order to keep gaining points.
As a result of everything that went on during the race, Hamlin expressed his impressions after the race. The famous driver emphasized that he was close to Truex Jr, but that both drivers in front of him had the necessary speed.
“I thought we were really close with the 19 (Martin Truex Jr.). I thought he got through traffic better than I did all day, and it looks like the 17 (Chris Buescher) was pretty good too. That’s no shock – he showed some speed yesterday.
Showed some things on the track that I felt like – caught my eye. Track position was king, we just never got to be up towards the front enough until the very end,” Hamlin said.
Denny Hamlin on the rain
In the aftermath of the weekend's rain, many people were concerned about the condition of the track, given that the rain caused major problems during the weekend.
In Hamlin's opinion, the track change didn't make much of a difference, which is why he doesn't seem to be too concerned about it. “It wasn’t a whole lot different. These conditions are cooler – cloudy, more on-throttle time, and harder to pass.
But that is kind of what you get here at Michigan – it’s a track position, track strategy track,” Hamlin said. Denny once again showed his quality, and many have no doubt that great things can be expected from him in the future.
