Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko says that Max Verstappen is without a doubt the best driver he has ever worked with, and he also pointed out what thrilled him most about the new world champion. Verstappen made his Formula One debut with Toro Rosso in 2015 at just 17, and although Red Bull was criticized for the move, it ultimately proved unfounded as the Dutchman thrilled in his first season.
In the seventh season in Formula 1, Verstappen got a car with which he could fight for the title against the hitherto dominant Mercedes, and in the dramatic finale in Abu Dhabi, the Dutchman won his first title in a fight with Hamilton.
Marko told Red Bull's ServusTV that Verstappen is "without a doubt" the best driver he has ever worked with, which means that he thinks he is better than Vettel, who brought Red Bull four championship titles.
"Yes, no doubt," Marko said. "He showed incredible will. What sets him apart the most is that he doesn't need a warm-up lap. ” Marko praised Verstappen's readiness and skill and recalled the race in Jeddah when Max surprisingly well adapted to a track he had not known before.
“When it rains somewhere, others drive five or eight laps. Then Max goes outside and drives off the best time in the first lap. Or in Jeddah- no one knows the track. Others have already driven laps, Max comes out and sets the top three sectors.
” "It's one of his fascinating qualities."
Marko also commented on the criticism that Red Bull was exposed to when he was introduced to Formula 1 at the age of 17. Many believed that Red Bull was making the wrong move with Verstappen, but in the end, it all paid off and after this season they silenced the critics because Max really showed that he is one of the best Formula 1 drivers.
“Then it was definitely a risk, given the age. But I knew we had a great team with AlphaTauri [2015. his name was Toro Rosso]. ” "Of course, I'm happy it turned out that way. I knew he would be well prepared.
" "I'm excited to see what's next [in Verstappen's career]." What is certain is that Max has fulfilled his greatest wish. After all, he will feel less pressure, and that could very well be his great advantage in the quest for another title.
