The new 2022 MLB season!
The new 2022 MLB season!

The start of the 2022 MLB season has been delayed by a lockout of players, which commenced on December 2, 2021, following the expiration of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the league and the Major League Baseball Players Association.

On March 10, 2022, MLB and the MLBPA reached a deal on a five-year CBA, with Opening Day scheduled for April 7 (delayed from its originally-planned March 31st), and a full 162-game schedule. Under the new CBA, there will be a universal designated hitter, and the postseason will also be expanded to 12 teams.

As result of the postseason expansion, regular season extending tie-breaker games will be abolished. In November 2021, the Cleveland Indians announced their new team name, the Cleveland Guardians. The 2022 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to be hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

The new MLB 2022 season will begin on April 7, 2022. The players and owners association have reached an agreement on their internal divisions, and now, with the politicisms behind it, there is finally the baseball field, without skipping games.

All 162 matches of the regular season will then be played. The new 5-year collective bargaining agreement with 26 votes in favor and 12 against by the players union, unanimously approved by the owners instead, presents some innovations.

The introduction of the designated hitter also in the National League, the enlargement of the playoffs to 12 teams, the possibility of having sponsorship marks on the jerseys. Then the increase of the minimum wages to $ 700,000 for 2022 (+ 23% compared to 2021), to reach 780.00 in 2026, and the growth of the luxury tax, to be paid if the pre-established threshold of the wage bill is exceeded, in a league where there is no salary cap, to 230 million for the next season (+ 10%), with gradual growth that will bring it to 244 million in 2026.

No pitch clock on the other hand for pitchers, a rule that would have limited the time available to pitchers between pitches, in order to speed up matches. We will talk about it again in 2023, as well as for the abolition of the shift, or the positioning of an infantryman on the outfield according to the serving tendencies of those who are at the plate.

The previous season

Atlanta Braves wins the 2021 World Series thanks to a 4-2 overall victory against Houston Astros, dominated in Game-6 by 7-0! Mid-season Atlanta had been overwhelmed by injuries and far from the playoffs, but has recovered in the last two months, hitting a historic result.
