Texas Rangers' star shortstop Corey Seager is facing an uncertain start to the upcoming MLB season following a recent surgery for a sports hernia. The procedure, which took place on Tuesday, was deemed necessary to address a persistent issue that has been troubling Seager.

This development comes at an inopportune time, with Spring Training just around the corner, casting doubt on Seager's participation in these crucial preseason preparations.

Seager's Spring Training Concerns

Seager's absence from most, if not all, of the Spring Training schedule has raised concerns about his readiness for Opening Day.

The team's management, while hopeful for a speedy recovery, remains cautious about setting a definitive timeline for his return to the field. The hernia, described by Texas Rangers General Manager Chris Young in a statement to Yahoo!

Sports as a "manageable" but progressively worsening condition, ultimately required surgical intervention. The decision to proceed with surgery was made with an understanding of the potential impact on Seager's preparation for the new season.

Despite this setback, there is a sense of optimism within the Rangers organization regarding Seager's recovery. The team is reportedly hopeful that he might be ready by March 28, Opening Day, when they are scheduled to face the Chicago Cubs.

However, with only two months until that date, Seager's availability remains a question mark. Seager, who recently earned the title of World Series MVP, had initially hoped that minor treatment and rest during the offseason would suffice in healing his hernia.

Unfortunately, this approach did not yield the desired results, necessitating the surgical route. The Texas Rangers, set to defend their title, may face the challenge of entering the new season without one of their key players.

While the concern level for Seager's timely recovery is reportedly low within the organization, the unpredictable nature of post-surgery rehabilitation means that nothing can be taken for granted. The team remains prepared for various scenarios as they look forward to the start of a new season, potentially without their star shortstop in the lineup.
