We all remember the Ryder Cup incident between Rory McIlroy and La Cava, which continued in the parking lot. The Northern Irishman was frustrated by the behavior of the caddy. Rory McIlroy used that anger in a positive way, and the day after gave his best and helped his team lift the trophy.
Many are divided about this incident and believe that the Ryder Cup brings such things, given the stakes and importance. Rory McIlroy spoke to the media about the reaction of the captain of the European team, Luke Donald.
Although Rory could not predict what kind of reaction would follow, he felt afraid that Donald might criticize him and his behavior. However, the opposite happened, and everyone felt relief. The other golfers who were part of the European team also felt a touch of fear that Donald might have a furious reaction.
Luke is a man who appreciates fighting spirit, passion, and desire to win. Donald saw that Rory wanted to help his team lift the trophy.
Rory McIlroy's statement
"I forget what time it was but Luke wasn't back yet. He was doing media and stuff at the course.
So we're sitting there for about five minutes - the 12 players and vice-captains - and all the talk is the video [laughs].
Then Luke comes in and sits down and doesn't acknowledge anyone. He then looks at me and I'm thinking 'I could be in trouble here', but he goes, 'Rory, I * loved that!'
All the boys started banging on the table.
It was brilliant. It had been a really deflating finish but it galvanised the team."- Rory McIlroy said. Donald is a coach who knows how to treat players and motivate them in the best way. He showed that this time as well. We will see if he will lead them at the next Ryder Cup.
Fans of European teams hope that Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald could work together again at the next Ryder Cup. That seems like a realistic option at this point. Source: Golfmagic
