Golf is a sport that experiences great changes in all fields from year to year. Younger fans are often on the side of such changes and support them. The older ones are more traditional and less willing to change. However, every sport, including golf, goes in a certain direction with the goal of progress.
A lot has changed in the last few years. This is exactly what Rory McIlroy talked about. The Northern Irishman revealed in which aspects golf has progressed. He emphasized three things; "I would say the aerodynamics of the ball, so the dimple pattern of the ball at that point," -Rory McIlroy said, as quoted by golfmonthly.com.
"And I would say the use of multi-materials in drivers, so carbon crown, titanium face, carbon face, that I think. The arrow of the golf ball combined with the multi-materials being used in the drivers and the adjustability - I think the adjustability of drivers, I think those are the three biggest things."
Rory McIlroy supports the changes
The USGA and R&A announced the Golf Ball Rollback Plan a few months ago.
Many golfers were against it, but there were also many who supported such changes. Rory McIlroy decided to support such things. However, he limited himself only to changes related to professional golf, not recreational golf. McIlroy has always been someone who encouraged change and strived for golf to be a sport that would improve year after year.
“I’ve been pretty adamant that I don’t really want the governing bodies to touch the recreational golfer because we need to make this game as not intimidating and as much fun as possible, just to try to keep the participation levels at an all-time high.
So, I’m glad in this new proposal that they haven’t touched the recreational golfer. But for elite level play, I really like it. I really do. I know that’s a really unpopular opinion amongst my peers, but I think it’s going to help identify who the best players are a bit easier.
I think you’re gonna see people with more well-rounded games succeed easier than what the game has become, which is a bit bomb and gouge over these last few years."- Rory concluded.
