Rory McIlroy is still in 'search' of a new major after so many years of 'drought' There are many successes behind the Northern Irishman, and a particularly impressive moment was when Rory won the US Open in 2011. Then, as a 22-year-old, McIlroy played one of the best tournaments of his career.
Those moments still make him happy. However, he remembers fewer and fewer details over the years. "It does feel like a lifetime ago,” -McIlroy told Sky Sports about winning US Open in 2011. “And I honestly think it's the best week of ball-striking I've ever had.
I don't know whether I've hit the ball better than that week."

Rory McIlroy impressed everyone. Even then, he set huge expectations. It was clear that Rory is a great talent who will dominate the golf scene for years.
“I go back and I watch that week quite a lot just because of how well I hit it, but also because, and this is what makes me feel old, I’ve just started to remember watching the highlights rather than remembering actually what happened.
But It's great to have your name on a trophy like this”. Rory McIlroy has gained a lot of experience over the years. Now he is aware of the mistakes he made before, and he knows himself and his qualities much better.
These could be the reasons why Rory could make a big success in the coming months. "I've sort of had my ups and downs in this tournament as the years have gone by, but I feel like I've figured it out,” -McIlroy added.
“I think it’s four top 10s in a row coming in here. I've started to figure out how to handle US Open conditions and tests and I think there's certainly a lot more patience in my game than there used to be."
