Cameron Smith: I feel as though I was really close to getting to No.1

LIV Golfers have had a problem since the very creation of this Tour. OWGR points are what they lack, and the final outcome is still not in sight. Many LIV Golfers have lost a lot because of OWGR, but they knew that their prioritization of LIV Golf could bring such consequences.
Cameron Smith, one of the biggest talents in the golf scene, is angry about OWGR and what they are doing right now. The Australian was close to becoming number 1. However, he decided to join LIV Golf, which spoiled the plans.
Smith is currently at an event in Saudi Arabia. He is angry because of the ideal chance he had, but he tries to accept things as they are. "I mean, I've tried to take it not that badly, to be honest," he said, as quoted by golfmonthly.com "I think when you rock up to a tournament, you know who you have to beat, whether there's a World Ranking or not.
There's generally seven or eight guys that are in that field that you know are going to put up a pretty good fight."
Cameron Smith and number 1
He knew how close he was to become number 1. This is something that of course frustrates him, but he remains hopeful that OWGR will reward LIV Golf with points.
We still don't know how realistic that is, but there must be optimism for him. "For sure it hurts. I feel as though I was really close to getting to No.1, and that was definitely something I wanted to tick off, but kind of the longer that this stuff goes on, I think the more obsolete those rankings become.
That's just the long and short of it, I think. Do we need them? It would be nice, but like I said, you know who you've got to beat when you get on the golf course."
