Haas officially terminated the contract with Nikita Mazepin and Uralkali

Today, Haas officially announced that they had terminated his contract with Nikita Mazepin and his previous title sponsor Uralkali, and the consequence of this decision is Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine on February 24, which was condemned by most countries in the world, and now various economic, political and sports sanctions are being imposed on Russia.

Given the ties of Mazepin's family with Putin, the president of Russia, Haas removed all Uralkali stickers with his car during testing. It was speculated that Haas would terminate cooperation with Mazepin, and the American team officially confirmed it this morning.

"Haas has decided to terminate the contract with the title sponsor Uralkali and the contract with the driver Nikita Mazepin. "Like the rest of the F1 public, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine, and we want a quick and peaceful resolution of this conflict," Haas said in a brief statement.

Replacement for Nikita Mazepin

Haas has not yet announced who will replace Mazepin, but it will most likely be Pietro Fittipaldi, their backup driver. "If Nikita can't drive for us for some reason, we'll call Pietro first.

He has been with us for a couple of years, and then we will see what we will do next. But Pietro is here with us for a reason, "Haas chief Gunther Steiner said in a recent interview with US media. "I am very disappointed that my F1 contract has been terminated," Mazepin said.

"Although I understand the difficulties, the FIA's decision and my constant willingness to accept the proposed conditions for the continuation have been completely ignored, and no process has taken place in this unilateral step."

“Eternal thanks to those who tried to understand. I appreciated my time at F1 and I sincerely hope we will all be together again in better times. I will have more to say in the coming days. " Mazepin raced in one Formula One season in 2021, along with Mick Schumacher.

He drove every race except the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which he was forced to miss after being positive on Covid-19 before the race. He finished the 2021 season in 21st place last in the drivers ’championship, with no points.

Mazepin's best result was 14th place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku. Haas' decision surprised many, but the world and Europe seem to be doing everything they can to stop the war, which is still going on in Ukraine.
