Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will have a "free fight" on the track

Ferrari gave its driver lineup Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz a free fight in the 2022 season, but not to take stupid risks. The Italian team unveiled their new F1-75 car on Thursday, with which they intend to return to the top of Formula 1.

The last two seasons must be forgotten, and for that, they have two top drivers. Many are wondering if Ferrari will allow its drivers to fight each other in case they are fighting for wins. Charles Leclerc is in charge of that, explaining that they have a free fight.

"This year, Carlos and I are free to fight each other on the track, but without any stupid risks. We are both fighting for the team, and the goal is to take Ferrari to the top, ”said Leclerc. “I see Carlos more than my girlfriend, since we are teammates, we spent a lot of time together.

Last season was also very long and we had a lot of time to get to know each other as drivers and as people. We fought on the track and I already know his strengths on the track"- Leclerc continued.

On the other hand, Leclerc admitted that he was embarrassed that he lost the fight to Carlos Sainz last year and pointed out the Spaniard's consistency as his strongest point.

"All of us drivers are hurt by losing to our teammate. You always want to be ahead, and in my case, there are a few opportunities that I missed, some because I was unlucky and others because I was too optimistic, ”explains Charles.

“The best thing about Carlos is that he’s there in every race; in my case, I can sometimes be wrong on the side of optimism and lose points. It’s something that hurts me, but now it’s the past. We have to move on.

” Like his teammate, Carlos Sainz believes it is crucial that drivers feel that freedom of combat on the track, but always keeping in mind that the team is the most important thing. “It’s important for both of us to have the freedom to do our best and if we find ourselves on the track, we’ll do our best, but always put Ferrari first,” Sainz explains.

"We expect the car to be fast, but we have no idea what position we will be in Bahrain. I am confident that he will be fast and that we can fight to win the races with him. But we don't know our real position yet, "Carlos concluded.
