Helmut Marko: "There is no reason not to be Mercedes against Red Bull again"

Red Bull sports adviser Helmut Marko says there is no reason why he and Mercedes could not continue where they stood last season unless some team found something in the new rules. The fight between Red Bull and Mercedes has started since the first race for the Bahrain Grand Prix during the 2021 season, and something like this has been seen throughout the season.

The Austrian team and the Silver Arrows clearly separated from their companions and were the ones who were constantly on the highest podiums in every race, except Hungary (Esteban Ocon) and Italy (Daniel Ricciardo). The fight was practically on every wheel-by-wheel race weekend between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

This pace was maintained until the last race, the last lap in which the title was decided in which Verstappen came out as the winner. On the other hand, Mercedes won a record eighth constructive title in a row. The German team thus dominated from 2014 to 2021, when the regulations lasted.

Entering this season, there has been a big change in the rules with the goal of mixing up the grid so that more team drivers get involved in the fight for the title. Helmut Marko on the new season Mercedes has already set fire to its new W13 car for this season, while Red Bull boss Christian Horner said that with their RB18 they have “achieved most of the goals” before entering the final stages of construction.

The advisor to the Austrian team is of the opinion that there is no reason to believe that there will be no fight again between them and Mercedes in the upcoming season, unless a team has found something in the new rules.

"All I can say is that we want to defend Max Verstappen's title and we are in a very good position to do so," Marko told F1 Insider. "We had two different development programs that were carried out in 2021. They both worked, ”he explains.

"There is no reason to believe that we and Mercedes are not favorites again this year. Unless someone has found a philosophical measure of weight in the new propositions, ”concluded Helmut Marko. Most are expecting what Helmut Marko is announcing, but for now, Lewis Hamilton is not announcing and the question is whether he will appear in the new season.

It would be really shocking if the season started without him, but of course, the chances are very small for most
