Vettel: "Mick Schumacher did an “amazing job” with a bad car"

Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel says that the newcomer to the grid in the 2021 season, Mick Schumacher, did an "amazing job" with the worst car - Haas. Schumacher made his debut in the premier class grid in the recently concluded season after winning the Formula 2 title for the 2020 season.

The young German, together with his teammate Nikita Mazepin, had a car that was not upgraded in any way because the American team decided to focus on the 2022 season when the new era of Formula 1 is coming. However, despite an extremely poor car, Schumacher still managed to enter the second qualifying round at the Grand Prix of France and Turkey - which was an incredible feat, and on several occasions, he managed to beat Williams' Latifi.

Schumacher's friend and mentor: Sebastian Vettel says that while it's hard to judge how good the first season was for his compatriot, he pointed out that Schumacher did "an amazing job with such a bad car"

“Well, I think it’s hard to judge because the car was far away (from the others),” Vettel said.

"But you know, for those who watch carefully - it's obvious that I followed - he did an amazing job with such a bad car that he reached Q2 a couple of times," he added.

"He had strong results in the race, he fought some cars that are much faster or who think they need to be much faster with their cars." “It’s a big effort, and even more I think it was a big improvement for the whole team.

I think that the progress from the beginning of the season for that team was slow because they did not develop, and they were far behind, ”he explains. Vettel claims that Schumacher’s work ethic served the 22-year-old well as he tried to push his team forward, and he hopes the German’s effort will pay off in a better 2022 car.

"I think if you look all year round, Mick was very happy, and he was one of the first - if not the first - to come to the paddock and one of the last to leave (from rookie), and he showed great interest in pressing team."

“So, apart from the work on the track he did, except for some small mistakes that happened in his first year, he did a great job. So, I really want him to get a much better car next year so he can show what he is capable of doing, ”concluded Vettel.
