Lewis Hamilton achieved the fastest qualifying time. Max Verstappen is second and Valtteri Bottas third. The qualifications, which are the introduction to tomorrow's sprint race, went to the fastest Mercedes driver: Lewis Hamilton.
The Briton has made it clear from Q1 that he wants to take the best starting position for the qualifying sprint race. The Mercedes driver was visibly the fastest in all sessions, so he deserved the first position. Max Verstappen placed 2nd.
The Dutchman never seemed to be able to match his biggest rival for the first position. The Red Bull driver had a considerable lag behind Hamilton of 0.438 seconds. Therefore, tomorrow will again be a fight for the best position between him and Hamilton.
Valtteri Bottas placed 3rd, and the second-placed Dutchman couldn’t do anything more to finish ahead. For Bottas, however, this is a great position as he has one Red Bull driver behind him. Sergio Perez fell in performance, unlike the first training session where he looked much more convincing.
The Mexican finished in 4th place. For Perez, this result will be quite important because he needs to show his true face in the sprint race. Pierre Gasly continues with a great release from the previous racing weekend. The Frenchman again finished ahead of both Ferraris in qualifying, finishing in 5th place.
The AlphaTauri driver thus put himself in a great position for the rest of the weekend.
Carlos Sainz makes it clear that he is ready for SF21. The Spaniard found himself again and beat his teammate in the qualifiers.
Sainz set the time with which he finished in 6th place. Charles Leclerc found himself behind Sainz in 7th place. The Monegasque had a significant drop in performance between the first and final qualifying sessions. Again, the Ferrari driver lineup achieved a good result that gives them the opportunity to be ahead of McLaren.
Lando Norris placed 8th. The young Briton is again ahead of his teammate when it comes to the fastest lap. Lando tried to improve the time in the last lap, but in the end, he had to be satisfied with this result. Daniel Ricciardo in second McLaren finished in 9th place.
The Australian didn't look particularly fast because he was over two tenths behind his teammate. However, it is very important for the team from Woking to be in these positions, in order to prepare for the sprint race.
Fernando Alonso is the only representative of Alpine in the top 10. The Spaniard has just finished in that position and thus rounded up the ten fastest in the qualifications for the Brazilian GP.
