Italian GP: Pierre Gasly's resounding triumph on Alpha Tauri

The craziest F1 race of the Century! The 2020 Italian GP was won by Pierre Gasly on Italian Alpha Tauri, ahead of Sainz on McLaren and Stroll on Racing Point. An unprecedented, young, unexpected podium, impossible to predict on the eve of a weekend that still seemed to be dominated by Mercedes.

Instead, while Ferrari still disappoints with the double retirement of Sebasian Vettel due to brake problems and Charles Leclerc due to a very violent bang at the Parabolica, a little bit of Italy got on the podium at their home GP.

Frenchman Gasly took advantage of Lewis Hamilton's penalty, who had to serve 10 minutes for entering the pits when, after stopping at Magnussen's Haas, the pit lane was closed. Hamilton, after Leclercm’s accident, failed in what would have been an epic comeback to finish in eighth place.

Max Verstappen also retired for Red Bull, while teammate Valterri Bottas did not go beyond fifth place. There are 276 GPs run by the Toro Rosso-Alpha Tauri combination from 2006 to today. As previously written, this is the second victory after Sebastian Vettel's in Monza in 2008, the year in which the German also started from pole position.

In addition to the current Gasly and Kvyat drivers, we also find Verstappen, Sainz, Ricciardo, Vettel and Albon, many of whom were sent to 'gain experience' before moving to Red Bull. Only one Italian raced for the former Toro Rosso, namely Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Since this season, the team is powered by Honda.
