George Russell says he has been proud of Williams ’form lately as the British team won points in 3 of the last 4 races. After not winning a single point for Williams for two and a half years, Russell ‘broke the ice’ by winning 4 points in Hungary.
The big celebration for Williams was completed by Latifi winning seventh place and six points added to Williams ’‘ account ’. The team from Grove has the most difficult period in their history behind them.
Until the Hungarian Grand Prix, they won only one point from 2019, and they spent the whole of 2018, 2019, and 2020 ‘nailed’ to the bottom of the constructors ’standings. 2019 was especially painful because they were almost always over a second slower than the next slowest team.
Russell then put on a huge sensation at the Belgian Grand Prix. He won second place in the rain qualifiers, which a day later became his first podium in his career in a race that was stopped after only 2 laps, which were driven under a safety car.
Russell won points
There was no luck for Williams in the Netherlands, but Russell re-won new points in Italy, although things did not look ‘fabulous’ for the British team in Monza either. Russell took advantage of the exit of the safety car on the track and ‘skipped’ Latifi and Ocon after doing his only stop in the box.
He managed to keep ninth place until the end of the race and won another 2 points. "I'm in points again — 3 times in the last 4 races, which is crazy. This team makes incredible use of the mistakes of others and we capitalize on that."
"We know the speed of our car, but we have won points in 3 of the last 4 races, although we may not have had the speed for that. " "As a team, we've definitely done something good and I'm proud of that," Russell said.
Russell admits that winning points in Hungary "took the pressure off" the team's back. "Definitely everyone felt relieved in Budapest and now we can go race after race. We try to make the most of the car, maybe gamble here and there with some things to find more performance and achieve a better result, "adds Russell.
Williams currently has 22 points and is in eighth place in the constructors' standings, and this season is much better for them so far than it was in 2019 and 2020, in which they won only 1 point in total.
