Max Verstappen secured the pole position

Max Verstappen secured his second pole position in a week and third in a row after driving the fastest lap in qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix, and Lando Norris finished second for McLaren thanks to a fantastic second lap that nearly knocked Verstappen down.

Verstappen drove the fastest time after the first Q3 attempts (1: 03.720), two tenths ahead of Norris in McLaren and two Mercedes drivers Hamilton and Bottas while Perez in the second Red Bull was only fifth with half a second behind.

But neither Verstappen nor Hamilton nor Bottas managed to improve their times as Norris took advantage and kept second place while Perez broke through to a third place in the second Red Bull. Hamilton and Bottas finished only fourth and fifth for Mercedes ahead of Gasly in AlphaTauri, and Tsunoda again placed Q3 in seventh place.

Russell entered Q3 for the first time in Williams and placed ninth, thus separating Aston drivers Martin Vettel and Stroll. In the second part of the qualifiers, Verstappen set the fastest time on medium tires ahead of Norris in McLaren and Perez in second Red Bull who also rode on medium.

Sainz beat Leclerc in 11th and 12th place for Ferrari who did not pass any drivers in Q3 after driving the last laps on medium tires, and Ricciardo once again disappointed in 13th place for McLaren, three tenths behind Norris who was fifth in Q2.

Sunday race

Alonso also did not pass in Q3 and finished only in 14th place after being interrupted by Vettel in the last fast lap in Aston Martin, and Giovinazzi was the slowest in Q2 for Alfa Romeo. Verstappen was the fastest in the first part of the qualifications ahead of Norris and Alonso, and Raikkonen in Alfa Romeo, Ocon in Alpine, Latifa in Williams, and Schumacher and Mazepin in Haas finished their performance in that phase of qualification, and these are the same five drivers who were before week performance ended in Q1.

The race is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. It seems that Verstappen does not intend to stop his good form and is still a huge threat to Mercedes, which for now has no answer to Verstappen's great ride. Will Hamilton thwart Verstappen in his intentions? Apparently, hewill have a difficult task, but not an impossible one. In any case, an interesting race awaits us and there could be many surprises
