Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen are pleased with the first laps in the new Red Bull F1 car for 2021. RB16B, which they tested for the first time in the rainy Silverstone, where they also tested the two-year-old RB15. Red Bull did the first kilometers in the new RB16B yesterday thanks to a day to shoot promotional material that limits the use of current cars to a maximum of 100 kilometers.
Perez and Verstappen shared 100 kilometers to get both first impressions with the new car and Honda’s new powertrain, and Alexander Albon drove a two-year-old RB15. Perez was the first to get a chance to drive a new car and thinks he is noticeably better than the RB15.
It looks like the Red Bull team has done the right thing and it will be interesting to see how they manage next season. “Driving a new car is always special for both the driver and the team that worked so hard over the winter so the first experience on the track is always an emotional experience,” Perez said.
"I can say that I think there is a lot of potential. The conditions were not great, but it was nice to get a feel for the car. ” “It’s pretty exciting. I used to drive an RB15, but today I felt a step forward in terms of grip level and top speed.
Verstappen and Horner impressions
Verstappen also drove both the RB15 and RB16B and is pleased with the first impressions. “I started with the RB15 to do a few laps after the winter break and then I jumped into the RB16B,” Verstappen said.
"Days like this are important for me to get used to the car and the new powertrain and to be as ready as possible for testing in Bahrain." "It's always good to go back to an F1 car and it feels so good when you come out of the box again."
Team boss Christian Horner agrees that it is a special feeling to see a new car on the track for the first time. “Today we had to check if all the basic systems were working before we headed to Bahrain and in that regard, it was a successful day,” Horner said.
“It was good to see Alex driving an RB15 alongside Max. It is important that it stays ready because it will play a key role in the development of the RB16B. ” It looks like the Red Bull team has done the right thing and it will be interesting to see how they manage next season.
