Jenson Button, the 2009 Formula One world champion, was appointed a few days ago as an advisor to the Williams team, for which he drove at the beginning of his F1 career, back in 2000. Dorilton Capital bought the team from the Williams family last year and has so far restructured the team’s leadership, and Button in a multi-year contract advisory role is the latest addition to the team that finished at the bottom of the standings last three seasons.
Commenting on the moves of the new owners so far, Jenson emphasizes the importance of the changes, which Williams is not currently afraid of. On the contrary, they are willing to change some old habits to improve the team.
"I do not think they are afraid of change. In Formula 1, all teams have a range of things to do and the way they work. I think at Williams they’re trying to change that and they’re trying to change the sport a little bit."
"They are not afraid to try something new, but the people who lead the team are very experienced. They have some great ideas and there is definitely a good atmosphere within the team. ” "This team has won many World Cups.
Clearly, things change over time, people come and go, but the core of the team is still there. They are world champions, they have won many titles ", emphasizes Button.
2017 Monaco GP
Jenson had his last Formula 1 driving appearance at the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix when he replaced Fernando Alonso, and although he was somewhere near Formula 1 all the time, he is now returning with a concrete role and saying he is ready for a new challenge.
"I look forward to working with the team and will help as much as I can. It’s one of those situations where everyone has to carry some of the burden, and everyone has to give 100 percent." "The team needs to be passionate, as should every individual who works in it.
It cannot be just a job, it must be overcome by passion and love for sports. That is the only way that will allow us to fight at the top again. ” “I feel this is the right time to return to the team and I am excited to work with them to help get this team back to the top.
There is one new optimism." "There are many positive changes for the future. Things don’t change overnight, but they’re on the right track at the moment. I'm really looking forward to it. It will be a new challenge, for which I am definitely ready. "
