After Lewis Hamilton confirmed that he would leave Mercedes at the end of this season to join Ferrari, rumors about his successor immediately began circulating. Several names are being considered, but it seems that no one currently has a clear advantage over others. Looking at the F1 scene, few drivers could genuinely strengthen Mercedes.

Even among those few, some have decided to extend their loyalty to their current teams. Ralf Schumacher is one of those who believes that his cousin, Mick Schumacher, would be an excellent addition to Mercedes after Hamilton's departure.

Mick will have the role of a reserve driver in the upcoming season. It will be interesting to see how Mick adapts to his new role and what his capabilities are. Being a Mercedes driver is a significant responsibility, with the expectation to deliver excellent results at every moment.

"There won't be that many candidates,” Ralf Schumacher told Sky Sports

Toto Wolff, the head of Mercedes, will be the one expected to make the right decision. His experience in the F1 scene could be crucial at this moment. Aware that there aren't many great options, we will see who Wolff and the rest of the team decide on. Russell will surely remain a part of the team and become a leader in the future.

“It's the question of what Toto Wolff wants to do.

George Russell, if he doesn't make any mistakes, is certainly capable of following in Lewis' footsteps and leading the team.

Now the question is: Do you go for experience or bring in new, young people?"

Ralf believes that Mick deserves this opportunity. Although he hasn't shown exceptional quality in previous seasons, the fact is that Mick hasn't been part of teams with great ambitions. If you don't have a car with which you can achieve success, it's challenging to expect positive results.

Sainz is also mentioned as one of the options, but it's hard to predict whether Mercedes executives are genuinely considering him as one of the possibilities. Ralf expects Wolff to consider such an option. Toto will have an interesting task ahead.

“Mick would certainly be one of the best options in the young area.

But of course there is also a Carlos Sainz on the market, even if I think he is more likely to land at Audi.

I think Mick's chances are good and I think he deserves the chance.

He would be a man alongside Russell who can be built up for the future.

I'm pretty confident about that, now all that's left is Toto Wolff is of the same opinion.

But so far I've only heard positive things from him about Mick..."

Ralf Schumacher shared his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari in 2025, expressing initial surprise but understanding the decision. He hinted at Hamilton's trust in the Mercedes team and structure over the past two challenging years, attributing the move to a desire for change.  Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have achieved remarkable things since his arrival. Although the last three seasons haven't been ideal for them, especially the last one, Mercedes executives are aware of Hamilton's qualities. However, it is now time for a parting of ways and the emergence of new faces at Mercedes. It will be interesting to find out who will be Lewis's successor.

Ralf also highlighted the importance of Hamilton's great relationship with Frederic Vasseur, suggesting that the promises made by Vasseur may have influenced Hamilton's choice to join Ferrari. Vasseur is familiar with the strengths of the Briton. If he genuinely wants Lewis to succeed, then he must ensure that he is given a car that can truly make a difference.

Ralf Schumacher was asked about the possibility of Lewis Hamilton succeeding at Ferrari, similar to Michael Schumacher's legendary achievements with the team.  F1 fans are well aware of how impressive Michael was at Ferrari.
