Jos Verstappen, Max's father, is one of the biggest supporters of the great Dutchman. From the beginning of Max's career, Jos was strict and tried to make Max one of the best drivers. It can be said that he succeeded in that.

Max shockingly won his first title in Abu Dhabi two years ago. Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton could not hide their disappointment, which continues to this day. In an interview with Planet F1, Jos Verstappen spoke specifically about the race in Abu Dhabi.

He is aware that it was a disappointing moment for Mercedes, but he is happy that things turned out the way they did.

“At the end of the day, I can imagine how Mercedes has felt, but it has nothing to do… we didn’t make those decisions.

For the fans of F1 and, of course, speaking as Max’s Dad, it couldn’t been better. It was so exciting until the last moment. Of course, for us, the outcome was nice. I can imagine, for Lewis and Toto, it’s not as nice.

But that’s how it is, you know, you have to accept it”. - he said, as quoted by crash.net!

Jos Verstappen on Max Verstappen's dominance

While many believe that the primary reason for Max's dominance this season, as well as the previous one—though the previous season was not as convincing as this one—is the fact that the Dutchman had a car with which he could achieve great things.

At the moment of their victory in Abu Dhabi, Jos believes that Mercedes had a better car.

“It’s not so much that he is more confident,” Jos continued. “I think, now, we have a more competitive car.

That makes a difference. In 2021, I think in the last couple of races Mercedes was above us. We were still competing with a slower car against a faster one. Now, I think we have the edge over everybody else. That’s the difference”.
