The previous week in Singapore was disappointing for Red Bull. Many expected that this could be the end of their dominance, and an indication of slightly worse performances in the following races. However, right away in Suzuka, Verstappen confirmed that Red Bull is far superior.
The Dutchman secured pole position for the Japanese GP and silenced the critics. Many blamed the F1 technical directive for the performance in Singapore. Max had a special answer for such; “We had a bad weekend and then people start talking about ‘yeah, it’s all because of the technical directives’.
I think they can go suck on an egg,” Verstappen said, as quoted by crash.net! “From my side, I was just very fired up to have a good weekend here and make sure that we were strong”.
Max Verstappen: I already felt from the preparation we had that this would be a good track
Red Bull quickly forgot about the race from last weekend and put all the focus on the race in Japan.
They knew that anyone could have a bad day, but the strongest ones bounce back even after that. Verstappen took things seriously and showed that he is close to a third title in a row. He is satisfied with the weekend so far. There are great chances that they will achieve another victory if we can guess by the qualifications.
"Incredible weekend so far. Especially in qualifying when you push it to the limit, it felt really really nice. We had a bad weekend in Singapore but I already felt from the preparation we had that this would be a good track." It was difficult to predict how the qualifications would go, but they obviously have reason to be satisfied.
"You never really know how good it would be but from Lap 1 it has been really nice. You try to find little improvements here and there and to be on pole here is fantastic."
