Storm in F1: Felipe Massa, former driver of Ferrari, has given a mandate to his lawyers to ask for the 2008 F1 World title, won by the British driver Lewis Hamilton, following irregularities found and demonstrated during the aforementioned season.

During the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, Felipe Massa, racing for Ferrari, was leading when Brazilian Renault driver Nelsinho Piquet hit the wall on lap 14, causing Felipe Massa to take a turn in the race. It later emerged that Nelsinho Piquet had received orders from his managers to cause the accident during the Singapore Grand Prix, with the aim of leading his racing partner Fernando Alonso to victory.

Renault had planned the entire race strategy considering this artificial interruption. Unfortunately, due to a problem in the pits, Felipe Massa did not score any points in that race.

Felipe Massa's request is that he believes the entire race should be cancelled.

This is because Formula 1 brass knew about the fraud before the end of the season and appears to have tried to cover it up. Not only: Massa and his lawyers are hoping for Lewis Hamilton's support in the Brazilian driver's legal battle.

Bernardo Viana, of Vieira Rezende Advogados, the law firm following the case, said: "He is an important ambassador for sport and has always stood out for sporting integrity. He is an honorary Brazilian citizen and is very dear to Brazilians, so I hope he will support us.

We have absolutely nothing against Hamilton." The lawyer revealed that Formula 1 and the FIA have until October to respond to the request submitted on August 15. It also seems that Felipe Massa has contacted Ferrari to help him in this legal battle.

Hamilton has said in the past that he has little memory of that year and is focused on the present, helping his team compete. In the next months should come more news about the issue.
