The German automaker Audi is accelerating its preparations to enter the world of Formula One racing in 2026. The company has announced that a prototype power unit will be tested on a test bench before the end of the year. The move is part of Audi's ambitious plan to make its mark in the high-stakes world of motorsport.

An Increase in Momentum

During a presentation in Shanghai, Audi board member Oliver Hoffmann said that the Formula One project has "really taken off in recent months." He added that the company has brought on board specialists with Formula One expertise to strengthen the team.

By the end of the year, the hiring of staff should be completed, with the team consisting of over 300 employees. The company has been testing a single-cylinder prototype for its engine for the past year and this year will run its first full hybrid drivetrain on a test bench.

This will serve as the foundation for the future vehicle concept.

A Racing Legacy

"Motorsport is an integral part of our DNA," said Markus Duesmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, at Auto Shanghai. He added that the company is confident that its commitment to Formula One will enhance Audi's sporting focus and increase its global reach, especially among young target groups and in its most important sales market, China.

Oliver Hoffmann, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG, said, "The Audi Formula 1 project has really taken off in recent months. In the ongoing concept phase of the power unit, the foundation of our drivetrain for 2026 is being laid today." He emphasized the importance of detail work and the focus on topics such as energy management of the hybrid drivetrain.

"After all, efficiency is a key success factor for Formula 1 and the mobility of the future, [and] these approaches will advance both worlds." With its focus on detail and commitment to efficiency, Audi is poised to make a big impact in the world of Formula One racing in 2026.
