The 1st match of the scheduled 3 match ODI series between India and Australia began in favor of India. Kl Rahul, the captain of team India, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mohammed Shami bowled a fantastic spell today; he took the wicket in the very first over, and by the end of the 1st innings, he secured a fifer.

India's strong bowling efforts restricted Australia to a decent score of 276/10. India's opening pair looked absolutely flawless; Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill built a fantastic partnership and seamlessly accelerated the run rate of the team.

Even though Australia picked up a few wickets, India's run rate was still very strong, which further allowed them to win the match by 5 wickets, sparing 1.2 overs. Their final score was 281/5 in 48.4 overs. You can watch the entire match highlights on the official BCCI TV website, here's the link: The 2nd ODI is scheduled to take place on 24th September.

Post match interviews

KL Rahul (India's captain):

"(On captaincy) Not the first time, always happens with me," Rahul said as quoted by "I'm used to it, I love it. I think the intensity in the afternoon was great, after Colombo this felt like heaven in the start but it was really humid.

It gets tough and physically challenging, but we've all worked on our fitness and that's showing on the field. We only played five bowlers, so they had to bowl 10 overs. After Shubman got out, it was a bit tricky with the set batter out.

But managed to build a good partnership with Surya, need to put myself in such challenging situations. (On partnership with Surya) We kept talking about hitting good cricket shots, rotating the strike and this is something all our batters are working on.

We didn't want to get bogged down, we were always on par so we wanted to take it deep".

Pat Cummins (Australia's captain) :

"Personally, happy to be back," Cummins said, as quoted by "Good to get my first game in India.

A few guys batted well, few guys bowled well but overall not good enough. (On injuries) They'd probably not be ready for the second game, maybe the third game. Maxi has just arrived in India. Smith's first hit as well, and Davey was brilliant.

Good to see them out there together. We've got one eye on the big tournament, but you want to set the standards early and build a good rhythm".
