Team India just came out of a fantastic tournament; they were successful in winning the Asia Cup trophy for the 8th time. India will now face Australia for the ODI series; there have been few changes in the squad due to injuries.
Some players have simply been given the time to take a rest as the World Cup approaches. The first ODI will take place on 22nd September; Kl Rahul will be the captain for the first two ODIs, after which Rohit Sharma will be back.
Axar Patel, the bowling-allrounder, was recently sent back home due to an injury; Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar recently gave an update on his injury. Patel seems to be fine now and could resume playing soon.
Ajit Agarkar on Axar Patel
In a recent interview, Ajit Agarkar spoke about Axar Patel and is hopeful for his return to the playing XI.
"What's made known to us with Axar's injury is that he should be okay,” Agarkar said as quoted by cricbuzz.com. “So that's a call we'll make once we know that, but at least it leaves us with options if they get games now, and gives the team management options if they need to go that way.
If the need arises, we'll look at it at that stage but there's no need to speculate right now or make any decisions right now because Axar, we're hoping that he's fit.Finals day I think he got through his program fine and that's why he's been picked.
Agarkar further said: We're hopeful he'll get through these games. He's worked incredibly hard to get to this stage and be fit. And fortunately for him it was not a massive injury he picked up but he did pick up a niggle, he'll have to get through these games and we're hopeful that he will because at the moment he's fine".
