India will be hosting the upcoming ODI world cup; it is scheduled to start on the 5th of October, and will end on 19th November. The finals squads for all teams worldwide are yet to be announced officially. Shardul Thakur from Team India was the leading wicket taker in the 3rd ODI against West Indies; he took 4 wickets after bowling 6.3 overs.
Thakur has played for India in the world cup before and contributed quite greatly for the team – he recognizes how unpredictable selectors can be, but his motive behind every match is to give his 100% and be a significant contributor to the team, not to perform well just to be considered for the World Cup.
Thakur is a fantastic all-rounder, and it will be very interesting to see if selectors add him to the playing XI for the world cup team.
Shardul Thakur’s thoughts on world cup selection
Recently in the after-match interview, the Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur expressively spoke about the world cup selection and explained how getting selected is not really in his control.
“I am happy to have picked up eight wickets in this series,” Thakur said as quoted by sports.ndtv.com. “As a cricketer we wait for this opportunity for years, sometimes you perform, sometimes not. Whichever series I play that always boost my confidence because I am only adding experience to my career, "I never think that I have to play to seal my spot because I can't play with that mentality and I am not that type of player.
Thakur further said: If I am not picked in the World Cup squad it's their call, I cannot do much about it. I always try to perform for the team and play according to the situation of a match. Also the team management will be looking at you, there will be few players who will be looking at selection as well. For us individually also all games that we play before the World Cup are important."
