England vs Australia, 4th test: Match officially drawn due to rain

After the 3 days of intense play and 2 days of rain interruptions, the 4th test match between England and Australia led to a draw, sustaining Australia’s valuable lead of 2-1. Both teams will clash again for the final test match of the series on 27th July at the Oval, and it will be interesting to see if England can stop Australia from winning the series.

The scorecard concluded to : ENG: 592/10 | AUS: 317 & 214/5. The rain can’t exactly be blamed for the draw, as Australia were wrapped around in survival mode; Team England was just 5 wickets away from winning the match.

Now England, at best, can level up the scores to 2-2 and draw the series.

Pat Cummins post-match interview

Pat Cummins, the captain of team Australia, wants nothing but to win the intense series, and as an obvious response, he isn’t too concerned about the outcome of the event because it was in favor of Australia.

He looks forward to the next match and said the following in the post-match interview: “Our preference is to come over here and win the Ashes” Cummins said, as quoted by cricbuzz.com. “Not the greatest of circumstances but happy to retain it now.

What happened today doesn’t really change how we look at the next game. It’s been an amazing group, we all turned up here very motivated. Will be a special week at The Oval. England batted really well, we tried a couple of plans but it didn’t work.

Cummins further said: We weren’t at our best so we’ll look into that. (On being asked about his fitness) Feel pretty good, having a break leading into this game was good. Probably haven’t bowled a lot of overs, feeling good.

Marnus was fantastic with Marsh yesterday. He got to show his class out there. We all turned up here to win the series, retaining the Ashes is nice but we’re fully focussed on winning it”.
