2023 was the year of redemption for Anthony Joshua. Two brutal losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022 cast doubt on his reign as heavyweight king. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Joshua has bounced back with three straight wins, culminating in a particularly impressive performance against Otto Wallin just over a week ago in Riyadh.

That's how he shut up the critics who said that he wouldn't be able to recover mentally from the defeat against Usyk. Joshua is hungry for gold again. And with the heavyweight landscape changing, 2024 could be his year to reclaim the throne.

Now he is much more experienced, he knows what it is like to experience a heavy defeat, which affects the fighters to see where they really are. In a recent interview, Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, laid out a possible roadmap for the former champion.

His vision? Big fights, big titles, and maybe even a third showdown with Usyk or a mega-fight with Tyson Fury. "Personally, I would like to fight Fury the most, a lot will happen until the third month to organize that fight against Hrgovic," admitted Hearn.

However, he acknowledges the uncertainties lurking around the corner. Usyk and Fury have a rematch scheduled for February, but will the winner retain the belt or will they prioritize a lucrative rematch?

Joshua will have a very busy schedule next year

"Maybe a fight in the third month and then again in the summer, month eight and month nine.

Maybe do three fights between the third month and the third month next year, something like that,'' Hearn muses, envisioning a potentially busy schedule for Joshua - three fights between March and December, no less. The fight against Hrgovic is far from confirmed, but it seems that the stars are aligned.

Should Usyk and Fury opt for a rematch, the IBF belt will be vacated, paving the way for Joshua and Hrgovic to fight for heavyweight glory. Joshua, fueled by redemption, and Hrgovic, hungry to prove his mettle on the biggest stage.

2024 could be the year boxing sees the rise of a new champion or the triumphant return of a fallen king. Either way, the heavyweight division is set for a successful year, we are glad that Boxing is back on the big screen again with many quality boxers, which adds a layer of excitement that will attract viewers.
