Andy Ruiz shocked the world in early June 2019 when he knocked out Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia, taking the IBF, WBA and WBO world heavyweight championship belts. Despite "AJ" regaining his titles in the rematch, the American-Mexican boxer won the hearts of many boxing fans.

However, those same fans were disappointed when Ruiz's name was omitted from the latest heavyweight rankings of the most prestigious boxing federations. Ruiz is not even among the 40 ranked heavyweights in the updated WBC rankings for the previous month, and the same situation is in the WBA and IBF rankings, where he is not in the TOP 15.

Ruiz has also been removed from BoxRec's overall heavyweight list, appearing only in the WBO ranking list, where it currently ranks fourth. His last fight was in September 2022, when he defeated Luis Ortiz by unanimous decision.

Not long after, the WBC ordered Ruiz to fight Deontay Wilder in an "ultimate eliminator" to determine the mandatory challenger for Tyson Fury's belt. Negotiations between Ruiz and Wilder broke down over finances, with Ruiz accusing Wilder of trying to rob him and Wilder countering that Ruiz and his father were asking for too much.

Ruiz's removal from the rankings

As a result of failed negotiations with Wilder, the WBC demoted Ruiz from second to fifth and eventually removed him from the rankings entirely. Other federations have followed suit, except for the WBO, where Ruiz remains fourth.

Despite his current disadvantage, Ruiz is still considered one of the best heavyweights in the world. He will likely regain his place in the rankings once he can secure a fight with a quality opponent. However, Ruiz is currently recovering from surgery and has not announced a return date.

He stated that he plans to make a big comeback in 2024. Ruiz was once considered one of the best heavyweights in the world, but is now ranked outside the top 15. However, Ruiz is still one of the best boxers in the world, and could make a comeback in 2024.

Only time will tell if Ruiz can restore its former glory. For that he will need a sound name and of course victory in that match. We hope he will be back again as he won the hearts of boxing fans around the world with his bravery.
