Gervonta Davis is yet to make a return after claiming a massive knockout win against Ryan Garcia. Shortly after the mega event, Gervonta Davis was facing legal issues. He was under house arrest, and since he broke the law by not adhering to the regulations, the judge was forced to send him to jail.
After spending 44 days behind the bars, Gervonta Davis was released on 14th July. Davis showed his growing interest in fighting Naoya Inoue, and his coach, Calvin Ford, recently spoke about the potential opponents for Gervonta Davis’.
A return in 2023 seems to be highly unlikely, as Gervonta Davis recently said that he’s aiming to make a return in 2024.
Calvin Ford on Gervonta Davis’ potential opponents
In a recent interview with Mill City Boxing, Calvin Ford spoke about Gervonta Davis’ future opponents and provided valid reasoning for his statements.
“That fight [Davis vs Lopez] is going to happen one day, because of the background they have with each other”. Ford said, as quoted by boxing-social.com. “We’ve seen them spar each other when they were amateurs and what not.
That’s going to be a good fight one day". Ford further said: “I think when they get to a point when all the smoke has cleared with all these other guys. I’m hoping Teofimo will hold that 140 spot, and ‘Tank’ will hold his spot.
These great moments that we’re seeing in boxing are going to continue, because you’ve got to remember these guys are older than the guys coming up underneath them”. Ryan Garcia hasn’t made a return either; he is expected to fight Oscar Duarte on 2nd December in San Antonio.
If Ryan secures a few comprehensive wins from here, he can easily demand a rematch to claim an opportunity to avenge his first ever career defeat.
