Canelo is one of the best boxers; this is an undeniable fact. He's got a match coming up against Jermell Charlo this September 30th – a win will further shine his professional career. Since there are so many boxing greats present worldwide in different weight divisions, Canelo thinks it would not be fair to entitle himself as the best boxer in the world.

Canelo is aware of the threat that is ahead of him and recognizes the strength Jermell Charlo has, but regardless of the challenge, he wants everyone to know that he is ready.

Canelo on being the best boxer

In a recent interview, Canelo explained why he alone should not be entitled as the best boxer in the world and sheds some light on his retirement plans.

"You know, I think we all deserve being number one pound-for-pound," Canelo said, as quoted by marca.com. "I think it's (dis)respect to put somebody at the top because, you know, you have Inoue, you have Crawford, you have Usyk, you have a lot of great fighters out there.

And I think we all deserve being the number one, his biggest weapon is everything, he can punch, he can take a punch, he can move too and he's tall; I think he has it all, but I'm used to fighting in all styles and I'm ready!" .

Canelo talks about his retirement: "I think I have at least four more years left, maybe five. I've been a professional boxer since I was 15 years old. That's almost 18 years of fighting professionally. I always said I would retire when I was 36.

Or 37, around that age. That should be more than enough, that's so many years of boxing. By then, I'll have achieved a lot of things and then I'll have to enjoy life with the family and everything".
