Former boxing champion Mike Tyson also had a successful past in the world of professional wrestling, especially in WWE. The famed boxer made several appearances at the Stamford company shows. His most unforgettable appearance came as special guest referee at the Wrestlemania 14 main event for the WWE World Champion title between Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
During the match, Tyson punched HBK in the face and knocked him out before counting the pinfall and the victory of The Rattlesnake. Speaking on an episode of the Boxing podcast with special guest The Undertaker, Mike Tyson recalled his great match at WrestleMania while reviewing his match with the Deadman.
Additionally, Tyson stated: "They gave me a lot of money. I got a couple million dollars for my WWE appearances. I was happy with what I did and am so proud of it. Vince is a great person." Finally, Mike Tyson explained his preference for WWE: "Tony Khan and those guys wanted to put me on the show and stuff.
I didn't care though if they offered more money. I preferred to go to Vince's all the time. If he wanted to put me on his shows, I would definitely always go to WWE even if AEW had to pay me more." In response to the famous boxer, the Deadman said: "I don't blame you on that.
There will be much more fun like this. WWE is going to do things right." Despite his love for WWE, Mike Tyson has also appeared in AEW. He recently commented on the Nov. 4, 2022 episode of AEW Rampage. He also made a couple of appearances on Dynamite and even got into a brawl with Chris Jericho's Inner Circle.
In all the circumstances in which he has shown himself, Tyson said he was honored to have been part of the show, even if not fighting in the ring. Apparently, according to some insiders, WWE had a match in store for Tyson in the federation's rings, although this was immediately ruled out by Jim Ross, current AEW commentator and member of the WWE Hall of Fame since 2007.
